Sometimes, Safari will not load the text of a webpage. It is a bizarre issue that is not really predictable. Both OS X and Safari are completely updated. I have included some screenshots showing what I mean. Also, usually if I wait a few minutes, the text will eventually load. Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong?
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
Unfortunately, the problem still persists with all extensions disabled. I have also tried emptying the cache numerous times.
Do you have this problem only with one site, or with all? Do you have any other browsers, and if so, do they behave the same way at the same time? What about other devices on the same network, or this device on other networks?
This problem is only on certain sites, and the problem is reproducible on said sites (I can wait for the page to finally load, and if I refresh, the problem occurs again). I have tried opening the problem sites on Firefox and Chrome and have never had any issues with those browsers. I am on a university network, however I do not think network issues are to blame as Firefox and Chrome have no issues.
Also, interestingly, the text actually seems to load, it is just not visible. If I select and copy the "blank text" I can paste it in a text editor and it's all there.
Some sites just work better in other browsers.
This is not just an issue of browser compatibility. It happens on many sites, including some big sites like Google, and the text eventually loads after a few minutes. I promise you Google is cross-browser compatible.
Does it happen only when you're trying to use Safari Reader?
Or when you just going to a site to view normally?
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
Start up in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Restart as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
If you still have problems, then from the Font Book menu bar, select
File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.
I appreciate all of your help. I will try these suggestions tomorrow morning. Also, I should note that the text does show up in reader-view. It is entirely a display issue.

Hi jsmaster! I've suddenly been experiencing the same thing as you. And while I can't determine why it's suddenly happening so often, I did notice that simply quitting and restarting Safari seemed to fix it. So far, anyway! 🙂
