iPhone 6 5GHz WiFi issues with frequent network stalls, and a fix

I struggled with the first few days of iPhone 6 Plus ownership, with frequent web page stalls at about 15-20% into loading a page, for about 1 in 5 pages I'd visit. Same deal with video streaming, would start to play for up to a minute or so, then just sit there. I would have to toggle WiFi off then back on again, and all would be well with all apps, for another minute or two.

This network traffic dropping behavior even occured during an iPhone wipe, followed by that intial restore from iCloud. Same issue was seen with iOS 8.0, and then with 8.1. Also important to note that 5 bars of signal would stay full strength throughout, it's just network traffic flowing over that connected that'd die.

The fix for me was to move my Linksys EA6900 router's 5GHz WiFi channel settings from 80MHz back to the factory default of Auto. That did it, all iPhone 6 Plus phones in my household have been stable, and fast, ever since (speedtest.net result of 183.26 Mbps down and 23.07 Mbps up).

Linksys and Apple support weren't able to assist, I wrote up the full details of my findings here:
