Q: AppleTV not Appearing in AirPlay

i bought a new AppleTV for my parents. I'm trying to AirPlay on my iPhone 5S running OS 8.1.1 however the AppleTv doesn't appear in the AirPlay menu (AirPlay does appear). Any idea what would cause this issue?
