Mid 2011 27" iMac, i7

I upgraded to Yosemite last month and everything seemed relatively fine. But today I went to use it and the system is running extremely slow, is showing the majority of my 12GB of memory as being used (though not all the time, not sure if this is relevant or not), and the display started flickering after about an hour of use. I shut down the computer to prevent further issues for the time being, but could something be wrong with the hard drive? Is it a Yosemite issue? My Apple Care expires on the 25th of December, should I get it in to Apple to check out?

Yes, get it looked at ASAP. If your iMac qualifies for this recall, you'll need to get it in very soon: iMac (27-inch): AMD Radeon 6970M Video Card Replacement Program - Apple Support. It's good for 4 years from the date of purchase.

I have the very same model, iMac 12,2 and had a bad graphic card.

As for the slowness download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

But regardless get an appointment with the local Genius bar before your AppleCare runs out.

I do indeed have the bad AMD Radeon 6970M, thank you for that. I had no idea about this recall!

Etrecheck results as follows:

Problem description:

System’s display occasionally flickers (AMD Rsdeon 6970M needs replacement)

System runs extremely slow under OS X Yosemite

EtreCheck version: 2.0.11 (98)
