I have a iPhone5 with ios8.1. I deleted all photo and videos in my photo library to free up space. however, in usage it still shows the photo library used more than 6gb space. in "about" page of setting, it shows 800 photos and 70 videos in my iPhone. but I cannot find any photo in photo library, and not from iTunes or iPhoto by connecting to MAC. it bother me for a few weeks. does anyone have a solution?

I had the same issue on my iPhone 5s, which was reporting almost no free space despite the fact that I had deleted ~6GB of photos, cleared the `recently deleted` albums etc, and waited around 6 months. The rolling-back-the-years fix suggested by Lawrence Finch didn't help. In the end, for me the following steps solved the problem:
For me, this process took around an hour and I now have my 6GB back 🙂.
I Don't usually reply to these threads but THANK YOU LAWRENCE FINCH for the fix. It's been driving me MAD!!!!! And in 1 minute I freed up 2.5 gb of space!!!! So silly and yet so effective......

Even if the deleted folder says 0, open it and look in it. If there's nothing in it you will have to restore iOS using iTunes and set up the phone as new.
Or you need to update into recent iOS? I don't know, just maybe.

My wife's phone is v7.1.2, a 4s. Same issue, and not sure I can update - it's having trouble doing that. Any ideas with a v7?

For v7 the best approach is to upgrade to 9.2.1, then use the procedure setting the date back (assuming the problem is photos).
Thanks Lawrence. Yes - it is the photo issue. Now I'm trying to get the update to work - it just says v7 is the current version...
If the latest version is 7, then it isn't a 4S. It's a 4. So you can't update it past 7.1.2. You will have to restore the phone as New to solve the photos problem.

HHey mine happened from 1st March as well.. Like some worm in the HDD growing in size continuously!
When you deleted photos, did you go to the Recently Deleted album and remove them from there?
