Q: Early 2009 X Server will not boot

Hi,

I had my Xserver in standby (connected to the power but off) for about a month and now it does not restart. The computer remains with the power and system activity lights flashing and the funnel spinning. The sistem indicator light also remains flashing. Actually, this light flashes intermittently when the computer is off but connected to the power. The computer never goes off unless it is unplugged. I bought the computer brand new in July 2009. I tried to restart holding the keys apple, option, P and R but did not work. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Remove the power cable for a few minutes, plug in again and restart the server.

If this does not work try:

Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve

    1. Shut down the computer.

    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.

    3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

    4. Release the power button.

    5. Attach the computers power cable.

    6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

    Good luck!

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for your help.  I followed your instructions but unfortunately they not restart. I am really frustrated with this problem. The computer was working just fine. Any more ideas?

    Hi!

Did you try to start from the boot-CD or any extern hard drive with OSX 10.5 or later?

You can do this by holding the "ALT"-Key at startup-process. Release if the screen shows possible boot-volumes.

Maybe one of your harddrives (the boot volume) is crashed.

Otherwise you can remove and plug in again the harddrives (switch off the server first). (- Contact problem?)

And also sometimes is a good idea to remove and plug in again the RAM-modules. Be careful with this...

    Good Luck!
