Facetime via iphone connected to TV, image inverted..why?

I have an iphone 5S. I use the apple lighting adapter to hdmi connection to mirror my iphone to tv. However, when using facetime, the screen get inverted to the opposite of what i am seeing on the iphone. For example, if i hold the phone landscape, the image comes out portrait on tv and vice-versa. So, I end up removing the connection and facetiming without mirroring on tv. I used to be able to mirror landscape screen to landscape screen on tv before but i am assuming this problem started after the software updates.
