GarageBand's loops and instruments are shared with Logic Pro X, iMovie, Final Cut Pro X, SoundTrack Pro X, and MainStage 3. Are you using any of these apps and do they need the loops?

If not, back up your Mac.

  • Then delete GarageBand from the Applications folder
  • Delete the loops from /Library/Audio/Apple Loops and ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops
  • Delete all files from /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/ and ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/

Hi.

I am using Logic Pro X on a daily basis. And never I launch GarageBand on my MacBook Pro. I see that there is approximately 15 GB that I would gain if I would completely remove GarageBand. I am reading every where that if I do that, it will affect Logic Pro X because they are sharing Loops and Software instruments. But what if I uninstall both Logic and GarageBand completely and only reinstall Logic Pro X, would all loops and software instruments all be available to Logic ? Will Logic Pro X be fully functional as it is now ?

Thank you.

Logic Pro will work, yes. But you will not gain much this way. A large part of loops and sounds shown as used by GarageBand are sounds and loops installed by Logic. So, when you reinstall Logic, most of the items shared with GarageBand will be back. You will lose the sounds, that are only installed by GarageBand.
