I am trying to add a network printer to my Yosemite computer via IP and no matter what series of configurations I use I cant seem to get the printer to print.
When you say configurations, do you mean protocol? I ask because some devices and drivers support various protocols on OS X. If you haven't tried already, create the printer using the HP Jetdirect-Socket protocol. This is the default protocol used on Windows (known as Standard TCP/IP or RAW Port 9100) and therefore is always enabled and supported in a network printer.
The other thing to consider is the printer language supported. If you are using a Postscript driver but the printer does not support Postscript, then your print job will fail. Looking at the Sharp Australia web site, this model has PCL as standard and Postscript as an option. So maybe your printer does not have the optional PS kit? OS X has a PCL printer driver, so as a test you could try creating another printer but using the Generic PCL driver. This PCL driver only prints in B&W and by default is set to 300dpi. But the point of the test is to see if it does print. This then rules out other factors such as network connections.
