After installing Yosemite, my iMac runs so slow. All programs take a long time to load and I get the rainbow spinning ball. In fact, while typing this, I got the spinning ball pause 3 times! Surfing online take FOREVER, each webpage is so loading, and the rainbow ball is no longer keeping me entertained.
Any solutions or ideas?

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault. Everything else is irrelevant.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.
I will start a new thread with a related issue. For my iMac (24", Early 2009), 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, I have two Memory Slots, each 2 GB. How much can I upgrade to? Thank you.
After installing Yosemite, my iMac runs so slow.
