logitech headset not working with skype?

I bought a logitech USB headset with mike to use with skype. I have it connected correctly and changed the input and output to logitech USB headset.

It rings and plays itunes through the headset so they are defintely working but as soon as someone calls it reverts back to the internal speakers where we cannot talk or hear through the speakers. I have rechecked tthe sound input and output and it is still on headphones.

Does anyone have any ideas how i can fix this problem?

Powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I think I may be having the same problem. I bought a CREATIVE headset. My headset is analog. Head phones through the audio output jack and the mic through the audio imput. In system pref. the external mic is picked up, but they do not work. I have been using the head phones with the internal mic. How do I ask my computer to use the external mic?
