According to Apple the Canon 5D Mark III is supported in Aperture 3 or later
http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
I am not a Canon user - but perhaps this model also allows you to save a small RAW file - perhaps called sRAW?
This may not be supported by Apple
Be aware, that although the file has a CR2 file suffix, every RAW file is unique to the model that generates it and has to be individually supported by Apple via a system level update
Hope this helps

Your version of Camera RAW must be really, really old.
Which version do you have?
Usually, with Photoshop, you get the little note that an update is ready to download, and then you get the latest Camera RAW.
Click "check for updates".
