I have some sort of trojan/ virus on my mac. Everytime I click something new, a new tab opens up with a pop-up. How can I fix it?

While Adware Medic is safe to use(it was created by a longtime contributor to these boards), you should avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store and the developer’s website; this was probably how the adware got onto the computer.
