Q: Is there a way to mirror MacBookPro Retina's display(late 2013 at 10.10.1) to TV via Apple TV using a direct/adhoc/computer-to-computer wifi connection (no wifi router solutions, please)?

Hi community,

I have the need to share the screen of my MBPr late 2013 running at 10.10.1 to a TV via Apple TV (V3). Reason is to share screen contents to an audience on a workshop. In a test scenario with a local Wifi network it is pretty smooth but I am running into problems when trying to share the screen without a local Wifi network but using ad hoc/computer-to-computer instead.

Apple TV does not see the network created on the MBPr and cannot connect even when providing the name. On my iphone I do see that adhoc network as a device and can easily connect to it. Wondering if am doing anything wrong or there is some limitations to allow sharing via wifi network only (which I do not see a good reason for at the moment, tbh).

Any solution to share the MBPr screen to TV via Apple TV using a adhoc/computer-to-computer network only (no wifi router solutions, please)? I am looking for a solution for environments without a local wifi network via router.

Thanks heaps in advance!

Ralph
