Using Find in pdf file

I have a .pdf file where I am having trouble searching for a word "rent" or "lease." The procedure seems straight forward but I must be failing in some particular. I cannot figure out how to attach the .pdf file to this message so it can be viewed. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi sburech,

Welcome to the Support Communities! On a Mac, the keyboard shortcut Command-F will bring up a dialogue box to find words in most applications. Type the word you are looking for and click the Next button to see it highlighted in the document.

Command-F Open a Find window or find text in a document

The native software application for viewing .pdf files is Adobe Reader. So you may need to review the Help menu for that application for additional information.

Hi Judy & thanks for the reply and welcome. I tried Command-F and it found "no results" even though I could see the word I was searching for in the document. Is there some way I can let you look at the document to see if you can tell me what is happening and if there is some type of solution. Command F seems to work on other .pdf documents. I see a way to insert photographs with the little camera icon but no way to insert a .pdf document into this response. Thanks again. Linda

Hi Linda,

If the Command-F shortcut is working in all of your other PDF documents, then there may be something specific to that document preventing the search. The folks at Adobe would be more helpful at explaining this than I.

The only thing I can think of is to

1) make sure the Adobe Reader software is updated to the latest version, and/or

2) try selecting all of the text, then copy and paste into a new Pages document. The Find and Replace option should work in the new document, and you could save the file as a PDF again when you are finished editing.

Does that help?
