Canon IJ Network Scanning Utility not working

Hello,

Since I upgraded my OS to Yosemite, the application "Canon IJ Network Scan Utility.app" is not working anymore.

When I try to launch it, it first shows in the top menu bar and then disappears. It is located in Macintosh HD ▸ Library ▸ Printers ▸ Canon ▸ BJPrinter ▸ Utilities.

I cannot use my scanner from the scanner itself any more which is not so convenient when you have a stack of document to scan...

Usually the Canon scanning applications are located in the Applications > Canon Utilities. The path you have shown is most likely for a setup utility rather than an application to use, such as the Canon IJ Scanner Selector for connecting to network scanners. This utility will just load an icon in the menu bar but not show an application for scanning with.

Checking the Canon Australia web site, the MX850 uses MP Navigator for scanning. And to use MP Navigator you need to have the MX850 scanner driver installed.

Hello Pahu,

thanks for the reply.

The app I mentioned is more a helper than a utility. It allows you to use the scanner to define where to send the scan and save you the back and forth between the scan and the computer to scan.

The MP Navigator tool is working fine it is just not convenient to go from one room to another to trigger the scanner from the computer after feeding the scanner (my computer and my printer are in different rooms).

Best,

I have noticed the same issue you are talking about. I have found a workaround to trigger scans from the printer, but it is MUCH less convenient than it was in Mavericks.

If you install all the latest Yosemite versions of Canon drivers and utilities from canon support site, you should have something called "Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX". If you run this, your printer should show as one of the options to select. Select it. There should also be a button labeled: "Scan-from-operation-panel-settings". Click that, and select your printer. If it is already selected, you may have to unselect and then re-select. At the printer, you should then see your mac in the "PC" destination selector.

With Mavericks, I only had to set this up once, and I could then ALWAYS just go right to the printer to initiate scans. That is, it STAYED connected to my computer: as long as the computer was on, I could just go straight to the printer to start scanning. Now, it seems that the connection somehow gets broken, or the "listener program" on the Mac stops, or something, and you have to go through the above steps again to get it re-connected. It is quite annoying, and much less convenient than it was with Mavericks. I think in my case, it gets "disconnected" every time my computer goes to sleep.

Hope that helps. If you find a way to keep it connected all the time, I'd appreciate it!
