How do I transfer photos from IPAD to Laptop

I have a considerable number of photos on my IPAD and I am trying to move them to my laptop or external hard drive. I cannot find the "Removable Storage" under my computer - how do I do this please?

IPAD is connected to Laptop - ITunes Opens.

I can see IPAD under Drivers

iPad, iOS 8.1.1

Not INTERNET explorer, but WINDOWS explorer.

Basically, I think with Windows 7+ look for the little file folder icon with the blue, red and green little dots on it. or 'start' 'my computer' and you should see your C drive and all peripherals attached to your computer

Double click on the icon for your iPad and you should see the DCIM folder

What happens is that, as far as a windows pc is concerned (and windows, not iTunes) your iPad is just a digital camera. So you're accessing it as such.

If the photos are in the Camera Roll album on the iPad you can copy them to a Mac or PC.

Connect your iPad to the computer and start your camera application. On a Mc you can use Image Capture or iPhoto. On a PC use whatever application you have to copy photos from a camera. Once you start the application your iPad will be recognized as a camera and the photos in the Camera Roll album will appear. You can then designate which photos to copy and where to copy them to. When you are finished you can also select photos in the Camera Roll and delete them right from within the application you are using on your computer.
