slow to scroll

All of a sudden my Logic Pro X is super slow, even scrolling up and down through the tracks/up and down on the page to see tracks below off the screen, the program is slow, staggers, stops and starts. I have maybe 25 tracks but very little plugins running, never had this problem before, is there a reason I am missing?

I do not have any plugins going that are not native to Logic X Pro

I restarted my computer and the external hard drive I am running the files from, as well as my audio interface?

Logic Pro X, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

It seems when I turn automation off completely things are smoother and dont grind to jerkiness with every action - what I don't understand is I've deleted all the automation now (it was just volume automation anyway), and my other projects that have lots of volume/panning automation run perfectly fine..I can't seem to find what happened or how to undo it for this one project 😟 any suggestions?

Try this....

Using the Selective Track Import (STI) feature.....

http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-use-selective-track-import-in-logic-p ro-9--audio-3181

Create a new project...

Import one track at a time from your problematic project in to the new project including plugins and automation.. and test after each individual track import to find out which track or tracks (and therefor plugins for example) are actually causing the slowdown/jerkiness....

It's a bit of a long way round of doing this but STI is a great little feature to diagnose, identify and rescue projects that have developed odd issues like the one you are seeing....

Note: The tutorial is for LP9 but STI works the same way in LPX.

THank you very much, that is awesome I did not know about STI - unfortunately what I found is that whenever automation is activated on this project, or a track has automation inputed at one point, then the project becomes slow/laggy, hard even to scroll up and down! I don't understand, even if I delete the automation points and turn off automation the problem remains! Also, I need to be able to use automation, it is just volume automation I can't believe my almost top end macbook I bought this year is having this problem --

Is there a setting that may be on causing the lag in responsiveness that I may have overlooked? What should I do..is there something wrong with my Macbook?

Try this...

Go and download and install etrecheck from here....

http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

Now load your project in Logic... and then run etracheck and post up the full log here.. alomg with a list of any 3rd party plugins you are using in this project.

Maybe we will be able to identify the cause of this issue... as it is not normal.

Is it just this one project or does any automation in a new project, cause the same issue?

Note: You are running still Mavericks yes? If you have upgraded to Yosemite, there are known problems and performances issues at the moment... and the only known solution is to roll back, using your backups.. to your previous Mavericks/Logic combination

Thank you so much, I downloaded and ran the program:

When logic x is open, with me simple scrolling up and down the screen with my trackpad on a project with automation I got this (I am using Mavericks still never updated).

I am going to try a brand new project and add automation and see if it happens right away.

Problem description:

Whenever I have automation in my project, the project slows down whenever I try to do something, even as simple as scrolling up and down the screen.

On a brand new project with automation, there does not seem to be the problem. Is there a limit to how many tracks I can run with automation? I have about 15 tracks total with about half of them using volume or panning automation - is that too much? Doesn't seem like a lot, I ran cubase on a really old PC with no problems with bigger projects/more automation so I assumed it would be okay!

Here's something from many years ago.

------------------------------------------------------------------

"Thirdly, I have noticed that when I scroll through my arrange window from start to finish there is one point which slows the scrolling (sometime stops for a moment). At this point I have some simple automation in the project, however the automation is hidden and is not visible in the window, yet when the project is stopped and I am merely scrolling Logic slows up here as well"

------------------------------------------------------------------

This has been reported on and off for quite some time. Not sure if it is something that happens all of the time or whether it involves certain plugins or is a simply a corrupt project. (there have been quite a few corrupt projects reported recently).

Im busy in the studio at the moment but a couple of quick observations... that aren't likely to be the root cause of your issues but don't help with Logic's performance for sure...

1) You are running apps in the background/foreground that take resources away from Logic.. Firefox plus it's plugins for example... Unless there is a really good reason to run Firefox, I'd stick with Safari these days and ensure all other apps are not running when using Logic. If you look at the report.. Firefox is taking up almost a gig of your memory!

2) You have some pretty useless apps loading at startup.. AVG for example.. really isn't helping things... and to be honest there is no real purpose/benefit to an Anti Virus app on a Mac unless you are likely to do something dumb and download cracked software or you click on links in unknown emails...

Ok.. will check back later with more thoughts...
