Please suggest me the internal bank (no. of chips) of RAM spec to upgrade my iMac 27-inch late 2012 - as its factory installation is 2 rows x 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3 1600MHz 204-pin with 8 internal banks >> Can I install new RAM with 4 internal banks to my iMac by using with the pre-installed RAMs?

You can keep the two supplied ram modules, or replace the two with larger memory...all depends on the amount of memory you want.

The best sources of ram for the iMac are OWC, http://www.macsales.com and Crucial, http://www.crucial.com and be very careful if you decide to buy from another source as iMacs are extremely sensitive to their ram. It must be completely compatible and OWC and Crucial guarantee their ram products to work.

Thanks to all for your discussion. I called Apple in my region and then bought and installed new RAM by this..

(Pre-install) 2 rows x 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3 1600MHz with 8 internal banks "ELPIDA"

(New install) 2 rows x 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600MHz with 4 internal banks "KINGSTON"

Total 16GB (from 8GB)

Hope this help and guide others in case of self upgrading 🙂
