Nov 26, 2014 5:42 AM in response to léonieby amediesli,No, but the Photo ( with identical titles ) is in 2 different albums. Maybe this is the reason ?

Nov 26, 2014 6:53 AM in response to amediesliby LarryHN,no - albums are not a place - they are jut database entries used for organization - =no after how many albums a photo is in it is only in the library once
What version of iPhoto do you have? What has changed since it worked correctly?

Nov 26, 2014 7:41 AM in response to amediesliby léonie, when using faces, the same photo appears several times and iPhoto continues to ask for identification of a face although that photo is already chosen. how can i avoid this
iPhoto can find several faces in the same photo, but it should not present the same faces thumbnail several times, if you do not have more than one copy of the photo in your library. Maybe the faces database in the library or the permissions need repairing.
Run the iPhoto library first aid tools and use the options "repair permissions" and "repair database".
To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the options-command keys while double clicking your iPhoto Library.
Then select "Repair Database". Repeat with "Repair Permissions".

Nov 30, 2014 5:37 AM in response to léonieby amediesli,First of all i have to apologize for my answer to leonie's first question. I had e new look to my photo library and noticed that i indeed had twice the same photo in my library. Obviously i had imported the photo twice ( from my camera as well as from a CD of my daughter where she had stored the same photo ) but I was not aware of this multiple import. So I think I have to thoroughly check my library for double imports and delete definitely the identical ones. Is there an easy way to find such double imported photos ( I have some 8500 photos in my library ) ?
In any case I thank Leonie as well as LarryHN for their valuable contributions.

iPhoto has no built-in tools to detect duplicates.
If the duplicates came from different sources - CD, camera, they may no longer be identical files and perhaps have been edited. In that case you need a duplicate finder that actually compares the photos and not just the file attributes. Photo Sweeper can find duplicates, even f the photos have been edited - it can compare histograms or bitmaps. See: http://overmacs.com/photosweeper.html
Old Toad has published a great list of apps that can screen your iPhoto Library for duplicates, see this link:
