music not categorized in my library on ipad

Suddenly a large amount of albums, artists, etc that were categorized and could be found searching by genres and by artists no longer appear in those categories and can only be found by searching by albums. This just happened the last time I synced a week or so ago. Frustrating because my primary method for locating music is these two search methods. Does anyone know why this might now be happening? I did not change any settings in itunes or otherwise. Only thing I have done recently (last few months) was to make sure that all music is physically in my ipad memory and not accessed via cloud when that functionality was added. Any ideas?
