sorry to hear about stolen MacBook Pro
There are several ways to locate your serial number. You may be able to get your serial number from iTunes, the device's packaging, your sales receipt, AppleCare mail-in repair emails, or the Apple website, as described in this article:

Nov 27, 2014 3:02 AM in response to sophiehoneymaeby Oysterdizzy,Thanks for the help...tried all of the above. The Apple Support has iPods, iPads and phones but not my Mac the sales receipt and packaging have long gone. All I have left is iTunes, but can't get to Devices from my iPad to check.

Nov 27, 2014 3:04 AM in response to Oysterdizzyby King_Penguin,If it was registered to your account then you might be able to get its serial number from your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
If it's not on there then you are probably out of look, I'm not aware of anywhere else that it's stored

Nov 27, 2014 3:30 AM in response to King_Penguinby Oysterdizzy,Thanks, but it isn't showing in my support profile. I don't know if it will show in iTunes? I simply can't get it from ipad. What really annoyed me was that the Apple Store couldnt help, even though we took out a year's support, in fact they couldn't be bothered!

Nov 27, 2014 3:56 AM in response to Oysterdizzyby King_Penguin,You won't see it on a computer's iTunes, you can potentially only get the serial numbers of iOS devices (e.g. iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) that are backed up to that specific computer - you can't get any device or computer info from an iPad's iTunes.
Have you been backing up the Mac e.g. using Time Machine ? I don't know whether the serial number is included anywhere within a Mac's backup (I assume probably not), but if you have been backing it up then you could try asking in one of the other forums on here where there are people with more knowledge of those areas e.g. there are forums for different OS X forums.
