I use microsoft office a lot and i need it on my new macbook pro with retina display.
You need to either run it from within Windows, or use Microsoft Office 2008 or 2011, or a product such as LibreOffice.

Thanks Niel, your ans. appreciated but i don't seem to find microsoft office for mac 2011 in the app store. is it a third party app and has it been certified by apple corporation?
