Record Audio using QuickTime 7

I have Macbook air with OS 10.9.5 Mavrick and the Quick Time 7 player will not allow me to record audio. I also have a MacBook with 10.6.8 and the Quick Time (i do not know the version) does let me record without any problem.

Can I install 10.6.8 on my macbook air with 10.9.5 and choose the boot system.

It depends on what OS the air shipped with. If 10.7 or above, you can't install Snow Leopard.
