The series 1 Bose Sounddock requires an adapter to charger "newer devices". This all dates back to when Apple originally used FireWire (not USB) technology to power iPods. That was a LOOOOONNNG time ago if you think about it.

Many years ago, I purchased a Scoshe charging adapter to get my iPod Touch 2nd gen to work with an iPod Hifi speaker. (Amazon.com: SCOSCHE IFWAHBK Home Dock pass PORT Charging Adapter for iPhone and iPod - Frustration-Free Packaging - Blac…)

I'm currently using that adapter coupled with a cheap (~10) 30-pin bluetooth adapter I got off ebay recently to connect to a Bose Sounddock Series 1 I got from a kind soul craigslist for free. The BT adapter wouldn't light up when it was plugged in directly, but works well with this charging adapter.

I haven't looked online very hard, but you'll need a charging adapter of some sort to get the BT adapter to work.

Hello!

Inwas wondering if you could help me. I have a bose sound dock series II, I dont think it has Bluetooth. I bought a 30 pin converter to be able to play music from my iphone 7 but it does not work. It charges the phone but it does not play music in the speaker. Any idea why and what would be a solution?

The Apple 30 pin to lightning available at all good Apple retail stores or ionline

HOWEVER if you have the very first Bose Sounddock available before iPhones were available you will also need an adapter to convert the change of 30 pin configuration which Apple made when the dropped fire wire

identify which Bose dock you have and it's year and I will find links if required

this may also help

With thanks to Lyssa who has posted this link elsewhere

BUT same criteria applies how old exactly is th Bose

I think it is the very first bose sound dock. I'll have a look this weekend. The iPod i bought with it was the black classic model with a colour screen, the dial/wheel on the front, but it's not the touchscreen.

My sons iPod which we bought last christmas, had a similar fitting, but wouldn't fit on the sounddock, which makes me think it is a very early model.

Thank you for your help.

Yes sounds exactly like my first one with an old click wheel iPod

My granddaughter now uses it with one of these

the scosche version and then the Apple Adapter to to an iPhone 5S .Bose never seem to wear out

The reason is the early Apple iPods used a firewire 12v in the 30 pin plug .That was removed I think before the iPhone 3G and therefore rendered the old docks useless without the above adapter
