This is just so annoying. The blue circle around your location is so large that it makes seeing things in your vicinity actually quite difficult.
As far as I can tell the only way to remove thes is to remove in location services but if I do that I lose location services.
Any other way around this.......

Yes, this is a BIG shortcoming and the reason I do use Apple map. There should be a simple way of being able to not have the giant blue circle or the blue dot displayed on your map; like making the location arrow a toggle button - click on, click off.
There's no way to modify this. The circle isn't always large, though: its size depends on the accuracy of your current location.
The map app is very annoying in this regard. Getting rid of the blue circle also gets rid of your current location. The blue circle is so dark, you cannot read the map underneath.
