Yosemite compatibility with Outlook 2011 (office for mac)

Has anyone had problems with Outlook 2011 for Mac after they upgraded to Yosemite. i have a mac-air august 2011 so i believe i have all the specs to support the Yosemite upgrade, but my concern is how Office for Mac 2011 will work (word, excel, powerpoint and outlook). most of the problems i see on general community chats seems to be Outlook and word in OS upgrades. but Yosemite is so new, i have not found a lot of comments about compatibility with all the office for mac 2011 applications. thank you

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Outlook 2011 works great on Yosemite. I used the original Outlook 2011 with Yosemite for a few weeks with Exchange server and it worked just as well as it did with Mavericks. Then, Microsoft just came out with a new version of Outlook for Mac 2011 (Office 365 Edition) that you can only download directly from your Office 365 portal and only use if you have certain Office 365 plans (so do your homework first). Anyway, I upgraded to this brand new Outlook 2011 for 365 version and it works great as well.

One benefit to the new version is that it uses SQLite for a back-end database instead of the old proprietary Microsoft storage database. It seems to work very well for me as I have 16 years of sent and received email in my database.

So far I have not had any problems in Word or Excel either since Yosemite.

I hope this helps. You may also want to search the Office for Mac forums as well.

Outlook in Office 2011 for Mac, in Yosemite, is terrible. Lots of stalls. When writing an email, every 10 seconds I get the beach ball for a few seconds, which is maddening. I updated Office today to 14.4.7 and am running OS10.10.1. I rebuilt the database, ran Disk Utility>Repair Permissions, and restarted. No change.

Anyone else having this issue?

Uninstall Office (correctly, per Microsofts directions) don't just toss it in the trash. Reboot and re-install.

thank you all for your replies. this sounds like the community threads i saw about Outlook and Maverick earlier this year and last year. Some folks loved it---no problems--while others hate the upgrade with Outlook because it's major time killing problem city. I'm guessing there are variables at play here---like what your hardware is (macbook, imac, macair) and the year of your hardware. And knowing MSFT, i'm guessing that there are variables there too (DVD, online office 365 subscription, and which year the software for either was created. i have been down this road before with Apple and MSFT---two different tribes that do their best not to get along as much as they should.

we really need forensics on everyone's hardware, software, year of each, and source of software (DVD or online) before we could spot a pattern as to what works and what is going to be a problem. It would have to be this community that solves it because i know from experience MSFT won't be much help…..and even Apple's support folks do not like trying to solve problems involving MSFT software.

so net net---please post another round letting us know your hardware and year, and your Office for Mac 2011 software version and year. also, if you do solve a problem, please let us know too. thanks everyone

Office rarely responds well to operating system upgrades, and MS in their wisdom have not made it easy to fix that. Removal and re-installation almost invariably fixes it. Had MS not removed the (generally good) uninstaller that came with Office 2008 this would not be such a pain.

MS also has this page to get a new key. When you installed Office 2011, you likely recall getting a small dialogue box that said something like, "This is your product ID number. Write this down…". You can also see this same number by opening any Office 2011 app and choosing (for Word, obviously), Word > About Word.

Where it says Product ID:, that's the same number you were told to write down after installing Office. Problem is, it's only 20 numbers, and the PIN page says it should be 25 or 27 numbers long. And ......... I tried it just now with my ID. It no workee. The page appears to be setup for users of Office for Windows.

It's entirely possible I wrote down the number from the About field thinking, "Oh, there it is.", when it's maybe intentionally short so others can't just walk up to your Mac and get the full number.
