And it looks like iOS 8.3 has been released and they STILL haven't fixed this issue.  This is a serious flaw that's eating up a lot of people's space without most of them realizing what's happening!  I submitted this as a bug 2 months ago and nothing. Brutal...

    Hey there,

I have been dealing with this same issue for a couple months and I have finally found a solution. My phone was out of memory but I deleted all of pictures on the phone; Itunes still insisted I had over 4,000 pictures. By this time, I was about to do the .99 cents to upgrade my storage space but instead, this is what I did:

Go to Settings --> General --> Date & Time --> UNTOGGLE Set Automatically

**You need to set your date back a couple years. After you set the years back, go to:

Photos --> Albums --> Recently Deleted

** You need to delete all of this "Recently Deleted Pictures". For some reason all the pictures you deleted months back are still on your phone! Once you delete all of the pictures in this folder, you will have memory!!! Now I can use my phone!

Don't forget to set your date and time back to normal once you are done.

I had same problem .... no photos still photos holding up space on my device here is the solution

Its because of new update on iPhone, Old photos don't get delete by it self you have to delete them manually.

Changing the date and deleting the recently deleted photos (which I had over 1,000 pics) worked like a charm.  I turned my phone on and off between both actions.  Thanks for the suggestion!! Gained over 6gigs of data back.

Great information. This helped me solve my problem instantly.

What's happened is, your iPhone is trying to upload data to your iCloud account, but it's ran out of space. So, in typical Apple fashion is just stops and doesn't give any alerts or info for you to action.

So while you've deleted the content from your library AND your recently deleted folder, the phone STILL keeps the data on the handset as it's trying to upload it to your iCloud account, but it can't because it's full and thus, it doesn't display the content, but still takes up space.

SEOmama and scabthepoet............thank you both for that date/time reversion fix for deleting hundreds of space-sucking "deleted" photos from the2.8 iPhone!  I was at my wits end and had nearly zero memory left on my perfectly good 5s, and not wanting to upgrade yet just because of memory.  What a tricky situation!  But after following your step by step process for the date/time/photo delete fix, BAM!, I suddenly had 2.8 GB of space back on my phone.

Thank you for the great assistance!!!!

Thank you for posting the scabthepoet answer. I have been frustrated too and this worked. My phone has lots of free space now and those photos are finally gone.

Scabthepoet - hats off to you.

Thank you SOOO much. I have recovered almost 8GB of space because of this technique, although I changed my date to the day I bought it, so ALL of the ghost pics were there and I managed to delete all of them. Thanks again!
