Unable to change camera on Quicktime

It would seem logical to choose Screen Recording since that's what it is. I believe many will fall victim to the same choice initially. Thanks for the reminder!

I have a weird problem. I'm able to see my iPhone 6 on the drop down but when I select it I cannot see my iPhone screen. I tired it with my iPad and it worked fine. My Macbook and iPhone and iPad are all updated in terms of software. Anyone know why my iPhone shows up as a possible selection but when I choose it the screen doesn't change (i.e. I cannot see my iPhone screen on my Macbook). Need help!

I have the same problem . iPad is connected to macbook and is recognised by iTunes, but not by quick time home recording. It simply does not show up. Using latest iOS and yosemite. Very annoying. May have to buy air server to get round it but annoying.

After doing some research, I'm pretty sure this only works with Apple products connected via a Lightning cable.

I have an iPhone 5s connected via Lightning cable and everything works as expected.
My 3rd generation iPad connects to the computer through Apple's old cable (30-pin to USB Cable) and it does not appear as I was expecting.

From my limited tests, it appears that your apple device must be connected via a Lightning cable. If your device is older than the Lightning cable technology, it appears that you are out of luck.

... Hopefully I'm wrong... but I don't think that I am.

That is what Apple's KnowledgeBase Article says (in part) for iOS devices in QuickTime Player 10.x: Record a movie.

I have the same problem. This worked a week ago...same computer, same iPhone, same cord. Quicktime no longer recognizes my iPhone as an option. I've tried different cords, different USB ports, different iPhones...no dice. Definitely an issue on the computer or with QuickTime. Please resolve this...we rely heavily on this seemingly simple feature.

Fixed it...well....Apple did. I updated to OS X 10.11.15 on the MacBook and iOS 9.3.2 on the iPhone. Works fine now...I should have thought about that a week ago....:)

Same issue. Worked previously but a few months later my iPhone wasn't appearing in QT. Tried different Lightning connectors but nothing changed; however I noticed that I had Micro Snitch running currently as opposed to before when I didn't have it yet. Quit Micro Snitch and sure enough my iPhone appeared again in QT.

Thank you, DChoisnet! After trying to figure out why it wouldn't work and searching online for days, I finally found your post here. I had been trying my old iPad with the 30-pin to USB cable (and incorrectly assuming it was a lightning cable).

After reading your post, I tried a mini iPad with a lightning cable and it worked. I was so happy that I had to sign in here and create a username just to write this to you. Thanks again! 🙂

Well i tried with both ipad third generation and iphone 6s+ but still it doesnt show the option to change the screen
