Unable to change camera on Quicktime

I wish to record gameplay off my iPad / iPhone, which is an option with Yosemite and Quicktime. It will only picks up the FaceTime camera and won't let me select another even though the iPad / iPad is connected. All software is up to date. Any ideas?

I had the same trouble, but I made the next steps and It works for me:

1. Be sure quicktime is not running in any way.

2. Before to open quicktime, be sure itunes is recognizing your device (In my case, I didn't watch the device screen recording option from quicktime although my device was available on itunes).

3. Open the quicktime again and make check.

I hope this work in your case buddy.

Do you mean that your Mac's QT Player Preferences will not show either of your iOS

devices as an option (compared to "Michael's iPhone 6 Plus"shown in the tutorial

image from the example article link I gave in my first response above)?

If so, perhaps your game software is taking over your devices' video. If you can record

your devices' screens or applications other than your game as is shown in the article's

QuickTime movie link, but if your game does not record like other apps, you may

want to contact your game's developer to ask if they plan an update that will work with

Yosemite's native recording feature.

Yes, when I have either device connected they don't show up in the list of choosable cameras to record from. I don't get as far as playing the game or using any app so I don't think it is an app issue, it would appear its within Yosemite and Quicktime. Is there something I need to do to allow access to an alternative camera?

If I understand your response correctly, you do not see your iOS device listed in QT Preferences, even before you launch any IOS apps. If that is the case, either you are not using the software correctly or there must be something wrong with your software or your Lightning cable connection. Users can perform only limited testing of these possible problems.

The only user tests I can suggest are: (1) reinstall OS X, (2) use another Lightning cable to connect your iOS devices to your Mac, and (3) connect your iOS devices to a different Mac using your current cable(s). If these or other suggestions you might get here don't help you correct your problem, I recommend that you seek professional assistance from Apple Support or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Yes it's before I launch an app. I've tried different cables and that doesn't resolve the issue. The cables all work to sync to iTunes or iPhoto no problem so my Mac is able to recognise them when connected. I've watch most of the videos on YouTube and I'm using the software correctly. That suggests its a software related issue so will get in touch with AppleCare. Thanks for all your help.
