Dec 1, 2014 4:39 AM in response to monadodaby KiltedTim,The same way you did the first time you activated it.... You follow the on-screen prompts. If there's some kind of problem, you have to tell us what's going on.

Jan 8, 2015 8:25 PM in response to KiltedTimby danfrumkin,I have an iPad 2 that can't restore either. I get an error (when I follow the on screen prompts) that says, Activation Failed, This iPad is not able to complete the activation process. I have been trying for a few days and nothing. The activation server shows that it is up.
The device was working fine until I did a restore and wipe. Now nothing. I have removed the SIM card and tried another SIM card, and nada.

Jan 8, 2015 8:30 PM in response to danfrumkinby ChrisJ4203,Is that the complete error? Generally, the inability to contact the Activation server is because the device is jailbroken, or the computer was used at some time to jailbreak a device. Does either of those fit you?

Jan 8, 2015 8:38 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by danfrumkin,Full Error is
"Activation Failed
This iPad is not able to complete the activation process. Please press Home and start over. If the issue persists, please visit your nearest Apple Store or Authorized service provider for more information or replacement."
The device has not been jail broken nor has my computer jail broken any devices. The device was working fine on wednesday and I did a restore and wipe, to switch from one user in the family to another. When I went to restore, I received this error. I have been through the restore and update process (says updating firmware, etc.) but at the end of the process I get the same message.
My big concern is this is an iPad 2 I bought new years ago and I'll be upset if the Apple Store folks say, "sorry, hardware issue."

Jan 12, 2015 5:51 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by danfrumkin,The nice fellow at the Apple Store said he would replace my iPad for $250.
I asked what was wrong with it and he said he didn't know. Eventually he offered to escalate it to the next level of support. I may know in about a week. Hopefully I'll know more in a week.

Jan 12, 2015 9:01 PM in response to danfrumkinby ChrisJ4203,That is how out of warranty hardware problems are handled. Apple does not repair devices, they replace them, and then inspect, refurbish, and test the devices for replacements like the one you would have received. If it fails their testing, it is considered bad and you are offered an out of warranty replacement. It doesn't really matter what is wrong, just that something is wrong with the hardware.

Jan 13, 2015 4:25 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by danfrumkin,If these "boards" are to be trusted, it is more than likely a problem on Apple's side, and not a problem with the hardware.
That being said, Apple seems pretty fair that they will look into problems with an out of warranty item for no cost.
I guess I'll find out in a week or so what they decide.
