Podcasts crashes iPhone 6 iOS 8.1.1

If your Podcasts app is still not staying open when you try to play them back, I would start by quitting all the running apps on the phone:

iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes and then restore it as a new device and verify that it works.

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

I am having same issue. Podcast app crashes, but stays open to be swiped closed. Very annoying. Have 8.1.1. Apple needs to fix.

In my case it succeeds in rebooting the whole phone, not just crashing the app. When listening to Podcasts or having the Podcast app open the phone will periodically reboot. Often rebooting more than once though it always eventually returns to a normal state. It can be after a few minutes or after an hour of listening to podcasts. It appears not to reboot at other times or until I use the podcast app.

I haven't tried erasing the whole device but I have been having an issue since 8.1 and through the two subsequent upgrades.

I subscribe to a number of podcasts so It is also possible that it is specific podcast with specific file codec or just the volume of storage involved are causing an issue.

Are others seeing a phone reboot rather than just the application exiting unexpectedly?

The curious behavior on my iPhone is that there is one podcast that restarts my iPhone every time. The podcast is only produced every other week or so, but whenever I start listening to that podcast, my iPhone restarts after about 15 seconds. If I try to pause the podcast or interact with it, it will often trigger the restart also. It's not a huge problem - I just find it really curious. Thanks, Bill

I am experiencing this very same problem--a specific podcast causes the the whole phone to reboot. In my case it's the IoT Podcast with Stacey Higginbotham. I don't know if this is a separate issue than the original thread, but this problem is certainly not fixed.

This same thing is happening to me. The whole phone reboots whenever I try interacting with the phone during playback. It only happens with the show that I produce. All the others are fine. How can I fix this??

I had the same problem on my pod running iOS 8.3. After updating to iOS 8.4, everything works now!

Music app is much better - seems stable enough for me!

I'm seeing the same behavior (Phone reboots anytime I interact with it when specific podcast is playing). The specific podcast for me is startup school radio from y Combinator.
