how do i connect iPhone 5c with iTunes on Mac?

I have a brand new iphone 5c, it won't show up in my iTunes. Once I connect with a working usb cord it is not recognized. I have updated both my iPhone and iTunes software on my Mac. How do I connect my iPhone to my iTunes?

Hello there, brandibrainbug.

Congrats on the new iPhone purchase. When having issues with your iOS device being recognized in iTunes on your Mac, the following Knowledge Base aritcle offers a great list of steps to follow:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support

Follow these steps to resolve your issue:

  1. If you haven't connected your iOS device to this computer before, unlock the device and tap Trust. Learn more about the Trust This Computer alert.
  2. Restart your iOS device.
  3. Restart your Mac.
  4. Make sure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  5. Install software updates on your Mac.
If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.
  6. Check USB connections. iOS devices need USB 2.0 to work properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, check the computer's specifications.
  7. Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
  8. Try another USB cable.
