Q: Connecting Dell U2414H to MacBook Pro Retina

Dear All,

I am planning to buy a Dell Ultrasharp U2414H monitor for connecting my MacBook Pro Retina (March 2013). Just a bit of search revealed there are some issues with connecting via Thunderbolt to miniDP port (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19578596) which is more of a Dell issue than MacBook Pro. Additionally, the MacBook Pro comes with HDMI as many would know here. However, I am not sure if I will be able to connect via HDMI rather than through thunderbolt - miniDP.

I am wondering if any one has dealt with connecting U2414H and are there any real issues?

Thanks in advance.

I just got one of these monitors and have it connected to a 2013 macbook retina and it's been great. Make sure that the color profile is set to adobe rgb in display preferences and you change the profile on the actual monitor to sRGB. There's also this script I found mentioned on mac rumours that helps with smoothing the fonts (https://gist.github.com/adaugherity/7435890).

    Hi,

I am sure your problem must have been sorted out by now, but for all current and future buyers for the dell U2414H and having an apple computing device, mac, macbook, pro etc, the monitor works perfectly out of the box when I connected with a mini DP(thunderbolt port) to HDMI output (U2414H), it just ran out of the box, without any issues, it even worked simply for my bootcamp windows. So no need to fret before purchasing one, simply go ahead and get it, it's the Monitor with most appealing edge giving you only a screen to view at, I was also considering between the U2412M and the U2414H, I think I've made a great choice.

    Cheers,

    N

Hi, Can you help me out, please?

I have this monitor and a Macbook retina pro.

The monitor didn't come with an HDMI cable, but I connected with a DP cable.

The quality is pretty poor, fuzzy and not what I'd call HD.

Is this connection not the best? In other words, would an HDI cable improve the resolution, would you say?

if so, would you mind pointing me to exactly the right cable for the job?

    I'd be very grateful.

    many thanks in advance.

Hi guys . I would like to know  if you bought it or not because I just got a LG 24MP88 but it didn't work as expected. its also a ips and 1080p but the text are freezy like pixellized when I'm going to ssafari or others browser.

I used it with hdmi cable for sure but it didn't worked.

is yours good enough like a real 1080p ?

    Hey,

I'm experiencing the same issue with MBP 13" and Dell U2414H.

Did you find a solution to this matter?
