result code -43 when bouncing Mp3 in Logic 9

Hey anyone - has anyone come across the same message when trying to bounce an Mp3 in Logic 9?

I'm running 10.9.5.

Aiff and WAVS bounce fine.

Try bouncing an MP3 and an aiff at the same time (select both as options for the bounce.....)

Error -43 means file or folder not found..... and there is a possible bug which prevents an MP3 from being created correctly with later versions of OS X.. so bouncing as both an aiff and a mp3 at the same time seems to resolve it though I thought this issue only related to LPX but it could potentially be the same in LP9 too.

Its not something I can test here as my LP9 setup is still based on the more stable 10.6.8 OS.... and so i dont have a LP9 and 10.9.5 setup to try myself...

Hey - thanks for getting back

Yeah that works fine but it obviously a little annoying still as it's eating up hard disk space and given the amount of bounces I do will eat up for hard drive with uneccesary files unless I bother deleting!

I have previously been bonncing to the desktop and that works fine too.

I did imagine it was a bug as it only started happening after I upgraded to 10.95. a few weeks back.

Lesson is to never upgrade! I was coasting before I had to upgrade to get Logic X for a project and now I don't even use it anyway!

Cheers

Indeed! It is a bug that several people have reported and as yet it remains unfixed...

Just delete the extra file right away and it's really no bother in the future... though personally I rarely bounce to MP3 these days.... I either bounce to an uncompressed wave or aiff... or if I must compress the file for some reason... I use M4A AAC. Any particular reason you have to use MP3? (Uploading somewhere in particular for example that requires MP3 format?)

This is why several of here are still running Logic pro 9.1.5 and OS X 10.6.8... because it has been proven to be the most stable of combos... and will do so for as long as it is possible (so long as the hardware that allows that combo, continues to work) 🙂

Anyhow.. glad I could help!

Cheers...

Wise words... personally, I think it's Apple's way of weaning people off a technology they don't own, Apple loves a closed/controlled system.

The reason for using mp3 is it's compatible with 99.5% of all operating systems/platforms out there and is still the most widely used format on the web if you want to have something heard by as many people as possible.

Has this been fixed in Yosemite/L-X?

Not that i am aware of..... though my time testing 10.10 and LPX was brief due to other, insurmountable, performance related issues.....

Once those are fixed or at least minimized, I'll set up another test rig again..... but for now my most up to date test rig is still 10.9.5 and LPX 10.0.7 which still has this bug present.

Actually I find Wave format is just as compatible these days.. and as most sound upload sites will happily convert from Wave to whatever format they use themselves to host (Soundcloud for example) I stick to using it for almost all my bounces that are intended for others to listen to... as well as being a lossless format for my own 2 channel archives.

Ha! next time I upload to SC it will be in Wav format then!

I guess I was thinking of individual websites that people set up on their own. A classical guitarist friend uploaded MP4's and received a lot of compatibility complaints, "I'd like to hire you but can't hear your demos".

I'm leaving in about 45 minutes for a location recording, All my good Mics, Stands, Direct Boxes, Headphone mixer, Laptop, 16 channels of Presonus input & about three miles of various cables. What fun!! cough cough... :-)

Glad I found this , sort of 😕 like many Mavericks/LP9 woes on their own no really big deal, but combined across many apps and functions it becomes rather tedious and time consuming working around all the changes , downloading 3rd party apps just to get the basics flowing-oh well still have SL/LP9 on partition but probably not worth re-booting just to bounce mp3/aac files to iTunes ...Oh yes iTunes 12 ,sigh..

I've found a solution to my issue with Logic 9 not exporting to MP3 on OSX 10.11.1.

show info for the logic icon - and choose - open in 32 bit and prevent app nap. If you have the icon on your dock remove it and re-add it.

Fixed my -43 issue when exporting mp3s - took me a while to figure out but got there in the end.

looks like an issue with the app making 64 bit File system calls - probably getting denied in the background.

I came across the same error.

Everything worked fine until recently when I was mixing a project and tried to bounce to mp3. Suddenly this "result code =-43" appeared. Note, I did not change quite a lot on my system and it was a project that used to work fine.

Changes that I did on my system. I installed a library from Native Instruments and switched to 64 bit. So I'm not sure whether the issue observes has anything to do with that. The system I run is OSX 10.9.5 with Logic Pro 9.1.8.

My observations:

1. When I want to bounce to mp3 the "result code =-43" appears saying "file not found".

In fact, I#ve no idea why the system is saying that, since I havn't changed anything and in the past bouncing to mp3 was no deal. It just worked.

2. When choosing mp3 + wav, at least I'll get a proper wav file (although ... this funny circle appears and Logic stops to react. THe only way it can be closed then is cmd + alt + esc.

3. When I take the setting as described in No.2 and then import the wav into a new arrangement and then bounce it to mp3 it works. However, yesterday I came across another issue when using this way. I don't know if there's a link ... The mp3 that I bounced was dead silent. The wav that I imported had plenty of signal and when using it in VLC, it worked fine. In logic the file was silent although faders were at 0dB.

Can anyone help?

Thanks ...
