Check to see the the parameters to the account are correct. Consult the guidelines from your mail provider.

If you can successfully log in via a web interface to your mail account (thereby confirming that login credentials are valid and working), have you tried setting up the equivalent mailbox in the default Mail app? I currently have 9 different mail accounts/mailboxes accessible via the Mail app on both the iPad 4 and the iPhone 5 (3 are Microsoft Office365, 5 are Google corporate and the last is my ages-old Apple account), all in perfect sync.

When it asks for the email it shows the various providers.
Yahoo mail is also associated with A T & T. should I choose
yahoo mail or just put in att.net
