Keynote 6.5 Loses Ability to Copy and Paste Master Objects (Titles, Body) From One Master Slide to Another

Using Keynote 6.5 I have no difficulty pasting shapes, images text and charts from any slide master into any other slide master in any presentation file.

I haven't heard of anyone having this problem in 6.5 so looks like Keynote may be corrupt

Try resetting Keynote:

You must use an application removal tool to completely remove all the constituent files

I use Appcleaner which is free, available from here: Appcleaner

remove Keynote using appcleaner: download Appcleaner, install it then drag Keynote from Applications onto the Appcleaner interface

empty the trash

restart the Mac

install Keynote from the Mac App store

Hello Gary, did what you proposed (removing Keynote with Appcleaner and reinstalling), but in my case the copy/paste problem on masterpages remains. The 'Paste'-functionality is grayed out. Using Yosemity 10.10.2 and Keynote 6.5.2.

Are you correctly selecting the image text or shapes, (bounding box visable) then copy and paste?

try using the keyboard commands instead of using the menu: copy is command C paste is command V

Also try the above as a test in a new blank presentation, occasionally Keynote can get locked up.

As a Keynote-instructor myself you can be assured this is a bug. I tried to start a new presentation 'white' and discovered something odd: when I make an object on a regular slide and copy this object, then it can be pasted on the first masterslide (not on another one). When I select another masterslide and return back to the first slide, then this option of pasting has gone too! Strange behaviour.

Copying and pasting objects from and on masterslides doesn't work in any case.

I do not have this problem with Keynote on any of my systems - 18 different Macs.

I have one iMac 27 on 10.10.2 with Keynote 6.5.2 (2119) with this problem.

On my MacBook Pro 15 with same system and Keynote there is no problem at all copy & paste between master slides.

Testing on same Keynote file.

Not ready for doing the uninstall thing and awaiting an other solution first 😉

Found a solution in my case, probably for your situation too!

When activating a masterslide (in the navigation panel), you then have to click on the masterslide itself (in the document window) before pasting is allowed. This behaviour is different for normal slides.

Yes I know that. But when I paste an objekt (i.e. a square) with text inside as part of the object ONLY the text will past and even not in the correct format, just plaint black text.

This works fine on one Mac but not on the other one.

I will now try to remove the Keynote app and see if it helps.

I can't believe I've been spinning my wheels for the last 20 mins, when it was solved by activating the slide by clicking on it! Arg, Apple, seriously...

FEATURE REQUEST: Selecting Master Slide in list should allow you to Paste elements into slide.
