iPad not keeping up with typing speed

I just upgraded to an iPad Air 2, from an iPad Air. From day one the Air 2 has difficulty keeping up when I am typing. Consequently, there are all kinds of missed characters and spaces as I am typing. I'm not typing at any different speed than I have ever typed, andi'm not typing all that fast. It seems as if the keyboard is simply losing its responsiveness about 10-20% of the time. Restarts do not help. iOS upgrades do not help, and I am completely updated. Any thoughts?p
