I have an iPhone 4 that ATT has processed for unlocking if I log onto iTunes, etc. However, I don't have a SIM card for it so I can't get past the setup screen. The phone is my old phone but I have long since misplaced the SIM card.

Can I use a AT&T Straight Talk sim if my original carrier was AT&T? Or do I need a non-straight talk sim? Not sure if they are seen as different carriers or not. iPhone 4 won't proceed to set up until a SIM Card is installed. THANKS!
Only your cellular provider can provide a SIM card for the phone. You need a cell plan in order to use the phone.
same one I have it says get a unlocked sim card and then connect to iTunes but its really saying activate iphone so then you can start😕

No the sim doesn't need to be active. If the phone is locked to AT&T you'll have to find a sim from them though. Perhaps a friend can lend you one.
I'm in a similar jam. Will any AT&T sim card work? What if it's currently an active ATT sim? Or is it basically sometime to tell the machine that, yes, it was ATT but now it's unlocked?

Any AT&T SIM will work. The phone requires a SIM for activation, and it requires that to complete the unlock process. Once that has occurred, you can remove the AT&T SIM, replace it with the new carrier SIM you want to use and then restore the phone. When you do the restore in iTunes and activate, make sure you are doing the restore as new, do not use a backup to start with. Then remove the AT&T SIM, and restore the device to your last backup if that is what you want to do.
