Q: mail.app Display by Sender Glitch

Hello all,

This problem may strike some as petty, but it's something I run into multiple times per day and it's bothering me.

In previous iterations of mail.app (for me, through 10.6.8), when I highlighted an email by a sender and clicked the column display to display by sender, the app automatically scrolled so that the current highlighted email (and thus sender) remained in its position on the screen. This strikes me as the obviously correct behavior: if you're interested in emails from Xxxx, you want emails from Xxxx to show on your screen. But with Yosemite, I find that, in the same situation, the app remains at the same place in the list, rather than following the sender; it does not scroll. In my folders with sometimes hundreds of emails, this is really annoying, since I have to scroll to find the sender. Yes, it only takes six seconds, but it happens ten times a day. That's a minute of my life I'll never get back, Apple!

So, is there some new setting I've neglected to change? I should reiterate that I just upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.10.1, quite a jump. This behavior might have originated in a previous version of the OS. I'd appreciate any advice in fixing this dumb lack of scrolling.

Thanks,

Franz
