Thinking of upgrading to an iPhone 6, but I also own a Moto X 2014 Pure Edition which I'd like to use from time to time. Would there be any compatibility issues swapping the sim between these phones?

If your Moto X is unlocked and you are going to buy an unlocked iPhone there won't be problems in using your current Nano SIM card in both of the phones.
I too used to swap phones when I had to make a call and my phone was dead: I asked my friend's one and put in the SIM. No problems at all.
As long as the use the same sized sim (which I believe is the case, nano sim for both) and either both phones are unlocked or are locked but to the same carrier, you should be o.k.
The Moto X takes an NFC Secure Nano SIM which is different thatn the iPhone nano SIM. It may work but you won't have access to the NFC features.

I am glad Apple allow you to swap Sims into Android phones and they also alllow you to download Goggle Play and Goggle books, this cross-platfom custimization will only drive sales for Apple and I think they beginning to realise this that people have all sorts phones more than one anlove swapping Sim from from one to the other so they get the best of Android and Apple worlds, maybe even Microsoft too. This cross-platform and multiple handsets only drives further profits and is good for the consumer.

The SIM being swappable has nothing to do with Apple. It also has nothing to do with your ability to use Google Play and Google Books on your Android phone. The SIM only has your carrier data on it, nothing else. If you should happen to get an Android that uses a different size SIM, you wouldn't be able to swap it.
