Why does my mail trash delete after 7 days?

I have a MacBook with Yosemite. No matter what I set in mail preferences, my trash is only saved for seven days. I can set it to a month or never but it always deletes after seven days. Is there a conflict with the settings for my Mail when I use iCloud on the web?I've got that set for a month. For some reason it doesn't have the same choices as Mac mail.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

On your Mac, are these the settings you are using, if not tell me what you are using.

    • Your Name: enter your name; this will appear in the from field when you send email messages
    • E-mail Address: enter your Bell Mail address (e.g., john.doe@bell.net or john.doe@sympatico.ca)
    • Account type: select POP3 from the drop-down list
    • Incoming mail server: enter pophm.sympatico.ca>
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): enter smtphm.sympatico.ca
    • User name: enter your Bell Mail address again
    • Password: enter your Bell Mail password
    • Remember password: select the checkbox
  1. Click on More Settings...
  2. Select the Outgoing Server tab.
  3. Select the checkbox for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
  4. Select the Advanced tab. Enter the following settings:
    • Incoming Server (POP3): enter 995
    • This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL): select the checkbox
    • Outgoing Server (SMTP): enter 25
    • Use the following type of connection: select Auto from the drop down list
    • Server Timeouts: move the slider to 10 minutes
    • Leave a copy of messages on the server: make sure this box is not checked
  5. Click OK
  6. Click Next and then Finish.

Just before you sent this, I figured it out. On my ipad, I never saw the Advanced button because when that particular window comes up, the on-screen keyboard on my ipad comes up on the bottom and blots it out - and you can't scroll the window up to see "Advanced" unless you make the keyboard go back down again. Anyway, I found it, and I reset it. THANKS TO EVERYBODY WHO POSTED HERE!

You might also look at the other settings. For total compatibility between devices, you should also set the mailboxes (such as sent and trash) to store messages on the server on all devices. The only one I would not store messages on the server is the Draft mailbox. It's a bit tricky on the iOS devices, but you will find it when going through the different settings.
