I've run the disk utility verify disk several times and come up with an error (post title) indicating I have a corrupt HD and need to repair. I've rebooted with command R and run disk utility to repair the disk and it says everything is fine. Reboot to normal mode and verify continues to show the error.

Other info says the file system exit code is 8.

Any suggestions whether this is serious?

I got this as well.

Under Yosemite 10.10.3.

The odd thing is that the disk was OK until I copied data to it, and now

the source disk and the destination disk gets this error 8.

I format the disk, and it is OK, until l try copying the date onto it again,

and them it goes offline and can only be mounted read only, and a

verifiy or repair gives error number 8.

I don't understand how any data I can copy from one disk and put on

another disk can cause the destination disk to get corrupt. Maybe there

is some kind of bug in the directory routines?

I think there is some kind of bug in the filesystem code

that cannot be corrected by the filesystem check routines.

When I had a perfectly new disk that was corrupted by

just copying data to it, and it is not caught at write time

but only on trying to read it back it makes the disk

unreadable ... I don't know what else it could be?

I copied the source disk in increments to another disk.

Had to stop, then reboot and try to copy the copy disk

to make sure the bad data or write was on not on it.

Then continue until I got as much as I could off the

original drive. Then, reformat the original drive, and it

works fine? Bug.

I just got this fixed. I have the "fileVault" on. So when I started in "recovery mode" (Command - r) I went through the following steps.

Clicked on the second "Macintosh HD" down on the list in the disk Utility

Up at the top where the "Mount/Unmount" icon is, it said "Unlock"

So I clicked "Unlock"

Then I was able to click "Repair Disk"

This worked and repaired everything. I have no more errors.

I hope this will work for you.
