Compatible USB Extension Cables

I have iPhone 5C and previously iPhone 3GS. I have owned 2 USB 6 ft extension cables. The first one lasted 1 year before it began todisplay an error message indicating the cord was not compatible with connected product and stopped charging. I bought the 2nd one after changing to the 5C. In less than 3 months, I started to get the same error message. So my question is, does anyone know of a product that would be compatible with Apple? Both the extenders were by Belkin (black). I recently saw a friend with a white one which looked like an apple product but was not. It was a gift so she couldn't tell me where it came from. Thank you.
