Wacom drivers will not install

I am running OS 10.10.1 on a MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 ). I recently purchased a Wacom Intuos Pro (Medium) but I have been unable to install the Wacom drivers for OS 10.10 (Driver 6.3.10w2). The installation process gets as far as the validating stage and I then get the error message "The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I called Wacom support and they advised me that my operating system was "corrupted" and that I should either create a new user and try installing the driver under that user or re-install the operating system. I am reluctant to do either unless I am satisfied that the problem is with my operating system rather than with Wacom's driver. Can anyone tell me which it is likely to be and what I should do about it? Thanks.

Hi again, guys!

I have an update for you but, alas, it's not a good one… Wacom updated its driver for older products in December '16, and I eagerly downloaded it expecting it to both correct some flakiness I was experiencing under Sierra 10.12.2 (my driver was randomly crapping out and asking me to restart my Mac) and the unacceptable system language bug.

Well… lo and behold, it apparently did fix the latter (I haven't tested the driver long enough to be sure about the former), but… only cosmetically. When installing the new driver version with my system language set to Portuguese (Portugal) I no longer got the dreaded error, though the installer did take a while on the “Registering Updated Components…” stage. I (erroneously and optimistically) thought that everything went fine… Nope! I was still getting an error message telling me to restart my Mac, which I did multiple times to no avail.

Knowing all too well about this bug, I removed the driver and, once again, reinstalled it with the system language set to English. The installation was much quicker (basically, it wasn't stuck on the “Registering Updated Components…” stage anymore) and now the driver works fine with any system language…

So, to sum it up: the driver installation still fails due, I'm guessing, to the same bug, but now the users are led to believe that it works because they get no error messages whatsoever!

I believe I should set up a new thread with a different title, summing all this flustercuck up and possibly linking to this thread, so that international users may find answers when their driver updates inevitably bork their Wacom tablets… It's either that, or me and/or those users doing that kind of YouTube video I vowed to do earlier… 😉

I had a similar problem where I couldn't get through the driver installation process. it kept saying verifying with a loading bar that never moved, so to fix this I went into the "system preferences", then I went into "Ink" and turned on handwriting recognition. Then all of a sudden it worked. Not sure if this was luck or what, but if it works for anyone else than great!

Kappy. Your claim that you were merely responding to what I posted when you asked "Or are you simply reluctant for help?" reminded me of the denial by the cashier in the movie Terms of Endearment that she had been rude to a customer (Debra Winger). My response to your claim is the same as John Lithgow's response to the cashier's denial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF8AZ-t2_Aw

Advising somebody to re-install a complete OS in order to install some driver or software package cannot be considered as a 'good advice'. Especially when it is given without the extra instructions not to restore from a Time Machine backup, as it will restore the system exactly to the state it was before. It will take you days to get your system to the state it was before without using TM.

Advising to install under a different account doesn't count as a good advice in this instance either, as the installer needs admin access and thus permission are raised above the one of the current user.

Anyway, I'm having the same issue and I wonder wether G.J. Mullaly ever found a solution.

I just installed the Wacom Drivers on my iMac 2007 4GB RAM Yosemite 10.10 and it worked without a hitch. You need to DL the drives from here:

bit.ly/10ecd8W

the ones on the installer that comes bundled with the hardware will not work at all. Also there is an issue with install/reinstall and there is an explanation of the procedure on Facebook. Either way this is WACOM telling tablet users on Yosemite what needs to be done with THEIR SOFTWARE IN ORDER TO GET IT TO WORK, so they know the problem exists.

I had the exact same issue as the original poster.

The problem:

The problem appears to be the drivers from Wacom do no install successfully if the the language is other than US English - my language was English - Australia.

What I did to solve the problem:

Open "System Preferences"

Click "Language and Region"

Under the 'Preferred Languages' box, select the + button to add another language

Select "English - English"

Select 'Use English' button when the sheet asks you "Would you like to use English as your primary language"

Install the latest Wacom drivers (http://us.wacom.com/en/support/drivers/)

The drivers should install successfully and your Wacom tablet should now work!

You can then change back to your original language settings.

I hope that helps!
