Okay, now I can type my summary, as a reply. Weird...

The question has been asked before, but I have yet to find the solution. I am moving many files in many places and it's a drag (no pun intended). I would like to be able to press command-X and command-V but that doesn't work. Someone mentioned something about pressing command-C, then choosing "move files here" from the context menu instead of the default "copy files here".

The first problem is that I do not have this option in my context menu. There is "copy files here", but that's it.

Although that would be better than dragging and dropping, it is still a bit more tedious than a keyboard shortcut, especially when you are doing a lot of "re-organization"!

So, could anyone tell me how to get the "move files here" option in the context menu, and/or either use "command-X" to "cut" the files, "command-V" to paste them - or - "command-C" to copy files as usual, and something like "command-X" or "command-M" to move them.

Thanks in advance.

<OS X: Keyboard shortcuts - Apple Support>

  • Select all files to move (Drag over range of file, or Select first, then Shift-Click to select last in a range, Or Select first, then Command-Click on each non-contiguous file to add to the selection)
  • Command-C - Copy selected files, then use Paste or Move to move the files.
  • Command-Option-V - Move the files you've placed on the clipboard from their original location to the current location.
