iPhone 5S screen is black & white (no color)

My 20 month old son picked up my father's brand new (2 weeks old) iphone 5S, and 5 minutes later we see he has somehow turned the screen completely black and white. No color remains. It is not the grayscale or the invert color options. He had just upgraded to iOS 8.1.1. Any ideas for how this happened? And how to get the color back?

Thank you for the suggestions. However I have tried powering off as well as a reset. We have shut down all the apps running in the background and then reset. We also looked through the apps that were opened when my son had the phone. He had opened a game or two, and several stock apps like newsstand and safari, but not Settings. I assumed he may have somehow accessed some new feature included in iOS 8.1.1 that I am not aware of right now.

I looked at this thread last night when my iphone 5 lost its colour. All black and white as if in grayscale. It wasn't switched to grayscale though (settings/general/accessibility/grayscale). There had been no trauma. It started charging from a wall outlet in colour and when it was finished it was black and white. Tried reboots, software updates etc. Nothing worked. The phone itself worked properly and the camera took pictures in colour (if I messaged them to someone else's phone who could check it). I took it to apple store today and we had to restore it. Yay, colour again! When I restored the icloud back up... gray again. Its some software glitch. I had to wipe (restore) the phone again and manually reinstall stuff rather than use the back up. Weird. But fixable. Don't underestimate wiping your phone. Its hard to remember all those logins, you take for granted.

you have 2 options the first is you do a 3 finger triple click to get an options box up select the choose filter option and then select the none option and voila. the next option is to go to your settings>general>accessibility>zoom>show controller then tap on the controller>choose filter>none and again presto. although i am a little late i hope this helps.
