Macbook Pro does not go to sleep

Hello

After upgrading to the Yosemite (10.10.1) I have noticed that my MacBook (MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)) does not actually go to sleep when connected to the power adapter. If I disconnect the power cord then everything works as expected. But if the power cord is connected then even the "System" -> "Sleep" command does not do its job. The screen goes off but the laptop itself does not enter into the sleep mode. If I run the "pmset -g" after that I saw the following output:

Active Profiles:

Battery Power 1

AC Power -1*

Currently in use:

standbydelay 10800

standby 1

womp 1

halfdim 1

hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage

darkwakes 0

networkoversleep 0

disksleep 10

sleep 1 (sleep prevented by configd)

autopoweroffdelay 14400

hibernatemode 3

autopoweroff 1

ttyskeepawake 1

displaysleep 10

acwake 0

lidwake 1

I have checked my "Energy Saving" settings and didn't find anything weird there. The option "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when display is off" is switched OFF (i.e. unset). Any help is highly appreciated.

Hi Serguei,

If during Safe Mode you were able to put the computer to sleep, that indicates there is a 3rd party operation on the Mac which is preventing sleep from occurring. Most commonly these 3rd party operations are in the login items, which you can easily remove by following the directions below.

Test your login items

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.

  2. Click your account name below Current User, then click Login Items.

Make a list of the login items—you’ll need to remember them later.

  3. Select all of the login items, then click Remove User uploaded file.

  4. Choose Apple menu > Restart.

  5. If this solves the problem, open Users & Groups preferences again, add the login items one at a time, and restart your Mac after adding each one.

When the problem occurs again, follow the steps above to remove only the last login item you added.

Take care,

Hi Alex

Thank you for you response. In fact I have made a search on the site already and tried out most of the things which have been suggested in the article you recommended. Here are the results:

1. I have used "Restore Defaults" button in the "Energy Saving" panel - no result.

2. I have logged in under the just created fresh account and used the "System"->"Sleep" command - it does not work either. The screen turns off but the notebook does not enter into the sleep mode.

3. Finally I have logged in to the Safe Mode under my own account - et voila, sleep finally works! The "System"->"Sleep" command puts the notebook into the sleep mode!

4. I have rebooted to the normal mode and tried again - no luck. Sleep does not work with the same diagnostics from pmset: "Sleep prevented by configd"

I have made one more test. I have opened the console and then have issued the "Sleep" command and after that I saw the following two messages appearing in the console:

05/12/14 22:58:50,629 coreaudiod[231]: 2014-12-05 10:58:50.629171 PM [AirPlay] Power: SystemWillSleep

05/12/14 22:58:56,958 WindowServer[147]: handle_will_sleep_auth_and_shield_windows: Deferring.

I still have the login items list empty.

Cheers,

Serguei
