Q: I am new to apple.

I am working on a Mac for the first time. It is older 2006 perhaps. My predecessor used iweb, and Mobileme to create and upload the website for our office. From what I can tell Mobile me was replaced by icloud. I have an id for icloud, but I can't load it onto this computer. When I go into the system preferences as it suggests, the icloud icon is grayed out. What are my options?

    What version of the OS is currently on the computer?  Click the apple >> about this mac.  On the window, you should see 10.something?  You're right in that MobileMe is dead.  For better iWeb support (no longer officially supported by apple), try here:  iWeb

    You won't be able to publish the website to iCloud.  That's not what iCloud is for.

     

    You'll need to obtain a new web hosting provider and publish to it.  Do you have a domain name for you company website?  If not then you'll need to obtain one so you can use it in conjunction with your new hosting location.

    What system and version of iWeb are on your older Mac?

     

    I'll ask the Hosts to move this topic to the iWeb forum where it belongs.

     

    iWeb 3.0.4 will work with Mavericks and Yosemite.  However, iWeb has been discontinued by Apple for nearly 2 years now and has not been updated since. 

     

    This might be a good time for you to begin using another application, one that is current, supported by its developers and has more features than iWeb hoped for.  One that is very similar to iWeb in its user interface and features is EverWeb.  It has a demo version that you can try.

     

    For other possible applications go to the iWeb forum and do a search for "iWeb replacement" or "iWeb alternate" to find many topics discussing other apps.
