Dec 7, 2014 7:00 AM in response to luketheapple64by MarnixvB,You can't.
Once the device is "activation locked" it can only be unlocked with the apple-id and password it was locked with. No way around it and no exceptions. Sorry, but your friend will have to remember his apple-id, then recover his password through: https://appleid.apple.com/ and then unlock the phone for you.
If he doesn't do that you got yourself a nice paperweight.
This is a security measure to prevent missing or stolen iPhones from being used by others than the rightful owner.

Dec 7, 2014 8:06 AM in response to luketheapple64by Roger Wilmut1,You friend should go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Find your Apple ID'. He will be guided through a process to discover any IDs he has. He can then reset the password - a new one will be sent to the associated email address. If this doesn't work he will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com. Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.
Once he's done that he should remove the phone from his list of devices - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
As said above, without his doing all this the phone is permanently useless, there is no other way of unlocking it and Apple cannot do it for you.

This response seems to indicate that it is indeed activation locked.

Dec 7, 2014 8:23 AM in response to luketheapple64by KiltedTim,Apparently, it is... Why do you believe it's not when it's clearly giving you an error message indicating that it is?

Dec 7, 2014 8:24 AM in response to luketheapple64by MarnixvB,Well, your first post was:" activation locked".
It that's not the case, then your friend should provide you the passcode or password to the iPhone to unlock it. There's no way around it.
The only way around the lock screen is to restore the Phone, but that will require the apple-id and password of the previous owner (I assume your friend is).
If you haven't got any of these passwords, then it's just end of story. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Dec 7, 2014 8:27 AM in response to luketheapple64by stedman1,No matter which version of the story you want to go with, there is no way around activation lock.

Dec 7, 2014 8:27 AM in response to luketheapple64by MarnixvB,Yes, it will be and as we tried to explain you three times now: there's no way around it. You will need your friend's password to go through this.
I have no more to add to this.

Dec 7, 2014 8:30 AM in response to luketheapple64by KiltedTim,Then it IS activation locked. ONLY the owner of the account that was used to set up iCloud and turn on Find my iPhone can remove it.
Talk to your mate. They are the ONLY one who can remove it. No one else. Not us. And Apple won't do it for you.
